MOTHER OF NINE WINS $20,000 WITH CADBURY SMASH FOR CASH
Sunday 20th January, 2013, Diane Burford, a 55 year old Adelaide mother of nine has won $20,000 after she successfully returned two of five serves from former world number one Lleyton Hewitt as part of the Cadbury Smash for Cash promotion.
The Cadbury Smash for Cash promotion, which ran nationally from November to December last year, gave one lucky Australian the chance to nail Hewitt’s serve on Margaret Court Arena during the 2013 Australian Open and walk away with up to $50,000 cash.
Adelaide-based Diane Burford, was announced as the lucky winner and was flown to Melbourne by Cadbury with one of her children, the first time she had been to the city. Diane was one of thousands of Australians who entered the Cadbury Smash for Cash competition.
The hit off took place on Sunday morning and included comedian Dave Hughes as “umpire” who added some laughs.
Burford is thrilled to have won $20,000 and before the hit off had only picked up a tennis racquet a couple of times in her life.
“When I received the call that I had won the Cadbury Smash for Cash competition I was very excited, I am a big fan of Lleyton Hewitt and what a great opportunity to win some serious cash,” said Burford.
Cadbury Ambassador Lleyton Hewitt loved being part of the Cadbury Smash for Cash promotion.
“I had a great morning out on Margaret Court Arena hitting against the lucky competition winner Diane and although I wanted to get some aces in there I am so glad she has been able to win $20,000,” said Hewitt.
During their stay in Melbourne, Diane and her son checked out some tennis action at centre court at the Australian Open as well as the sights and sounds of the cosmopolitan city.
Diane plans to spend her winnings with a new fridge and solar panels for her home in Adelaide.
