AMPR Knows. . . The One Where We Learn From F.R.I.E.N.D.S

Written by AMPR Senior Account Manager, Nicole D’Amico

It happens way too often. Everyone innocently goes about their own business and WHOOPAH, F.R.I.E.N.D.S reference.

Let me elaborate:

Roll into work with a fresh spray tan

Nicole: “I’m an EIGHT?!”

Taking deliveries down to the AMPR Showroom

Nicole: “PIVOT!”

Undressing the multiple layers in winter:

Nicole: “Could I BE wearing any more clothes”

Piecing a client brief together:

Lunch falls victim to a fridge clean:

Nicole: “You threw out my sandwich…MY SANDWICH?!”

When you disagree with your colleague:

Nicole: “It’s a moo point, like a cow’s opinion, it’s moo”

But on reflection, it turns out you can learn a lot more from my favourite 90’s sitcom than just impeccable timing with relevant quotes. So, here’s how F.R.I.E.N.D.S can prepare you for a happy working life.

  1. Friends are family, love them in spite of, and because of, their shortcomings

Your teammates become your family. You’ll work with a variety of personalities – a little odd, type A, sarcastic, to name a few – sure you’ll need to adapt to each of them, but it’s their quirks that make them loveable, even if they’re a Monica, and especially if they’re a Baby Kangaroo Tribianni.

  1. Take a break

Unlike Ross and Rachel, you should be proud of taking a break. Take time out of your day for a walk around the block, a short guided meditation, a lunchtime pilates class, a French lesson, a guitar lesson or a 10 second milk chug.

  1. Expect the unexpected

Unagi! You can plan your day, your week, your month or even your year but something will pop up, and you’ll have to be flexible to drop what you’re doing, adapt, and manage the situation.

  1. It’s okay to fail

Not everything will go to plan, the important thing is you back your team, stick together and learn from any mistakes. You don’t have to flee to 15 Yemen Road, Yemen.

So, there you go, F.R.I.E.N.D.S work life lessons – now we all know… but they don’t know we know they know we know.
